Building The Stair Case

VW Transporter vans don’t have stairs in , do they ?
You fancy T5 types are essentially driving around in overpriced bungalows.

This unit is the starting block for the internal build. Everything is measured from, and hanging onto, this section of the woodwork. Getting it right was absolutely critical for the stability of the rest of the van conversion. Any movement from people bouncing around inside the vehicle will tear and rip the ply finish so it has to be ROCK solid.

The stairs add a unique feature for the van, provide access to the back bunks and also offer lots of space for storage. This will provide the main “adult” storage space as well as stash areas for bulky, less used items in compartments around the wheel arch. The steps will be detachable so that larger bench style storage can be attached if needed. The third step will lift to provide dedicated stowage space for dirty washing which is always overlooked in vans.
